Municipal Election 2005

Coast Reporter Candidate profiles for Gibsons

Name: Bob Jones

Age: 54 January, 22, 1951

Reasons for running: This is the forth time that I have run for office.  I ran twice in Area E and this my second time running Gibson.  I love the trill of the chase.  I love sitting down with all the stake holders to a problem, listen to what they think is the problem and determining what the real Problem is.  The real challenge then becomes find workable solution that is satisfactory to all parties.

Money is not a motivator.  Because I am on disability I will only get $400 per month.  The rest will be clawed back under the Liberal’s new rules.  I am hoping that this money can be given to charity rather then the Province.

You won’t see any signs out there.  My spies told me that the new Phsyc ward needed a VCR so I spent my money their.  That means you have to get the word out.

What are your election issues:  In the last four elections Gospel Rock keeps coming up.  Every one wants it but nobody wants pay for it.  If Area e will partake in the process I will move at earliest possible date that Gibsons and Elphinestone have a referendum to share the cost of making Gospel Rock a park.  If the referendum is a success we will have a park.  If the referendum fails we have to let it go.  The developer has waited a long time to proceed.  We have to put up or shut up.

Low income housing is huge on my agenda.  Hopefully by the time you read this, I will have good news on my website!

BC Ferries and Transit on the Coast are a never ending problem.  I left downtown last Friday at 4Pmm and arrived home at 9 pm.  I have heard the all excuses from BC Ferries and SCRD Transit.  I am sympathetic to a point:  BUT If West Van transit can get it right and have a 257 Express meets every Ferry irriguardless of when the ferry arrives, why can’t the SCRD?  We have to fix this and we will!

Why can you make a difference:  I am not your typical politician.  I grew up in the British Properties.  I was a volunteer fire fighter in West Vancouver.  I was the first and only from the British Properties for a long time.  I was in the ambulance Service in a slaughter house called Surrey.  I racked up more stats in Surrey then Twenty Year veterans in Vancouver.  I have a systems analyst background and a proven track record as a politician on such committees as Ferry Advisory, BC Ferries Cost Allocation Committee, BC Ferries Pentagon, and our local mental health Advisory committee.  I have worked very hard on these and have the results to prove it.

A brief background and personal information: The last eights years have seen me very seriously ill with a couple different illnesses: Severe Depression and Severe Anxiety.  I have type 2 diabetes but I am dammed if they are going to stop me from doing the work I love so such.  In that same time period I have bought and paid for my own mobile home and enjoy an $8,000 credit limit on my credit cards, all this will on disability.

Please go to my website www.robertwjones and check it out.  I will be updating it regularly to keep you current.

There are two important dates coming up.  This Friday is November 11 and it is Important that you go with all your family to Remember all those Canadians who volunteered and died, so that on Nov 19 you can vote.  If you don’t vote they died in vain. You vote not because you have to or because it is politically correct.  You vote because you can, and that privilege was paid in blood.
